Welcome to OUR BETTER HALF, a deliberately irreverent and easily amused podcast series about sex and sexuality after 50. I am your host, Laura Collins Lyster-Mensh.
 
Join me, a mom in her 50s as I start asking questions about modern sex for classic bodies. And yes, you are expected to laugh. In fact, everyone I tell about this project does!

"You, Laura? But you're so... vanilla!"

Yes I am. I'm an average, vanilla, middle-aged happily married mom and writer who suddenly realized that while the topic of sex is ubiquitous the subjects of that sexual attention are nearly always young. I started to wonder why so few people are talking about sex and sexuality in the second half of life. 

"But, Laura, you? You're a prude!"

True. I've usually been the one of my friends who was the least bawdy, blushed at off-color humor, and embarrassed by graphic content. But one day I woke up and realized that I'm actually pretty difficult to shock. I am genuinely curious about how others of my generation and above are coping with a world where sex over 50 seems to be considered Over-Age sex. Besides, taking this journey with me means you laugh with me as I learn and stumble and ask questions: because I know I'm not alone.
 
I'm looking forward to chatting with experts and researchers from around the world to update my vocabulary and knowledge. We'll talk about sexual health after 50, midlife dating, talking across generations, body image, solo sexuality, and empty nest intimacy. 

We’ll explore what “sexy” means if it is not about being young and is not the kind of instant romance we see on screen. We'll find out what those who became sexually mature before the Internet make of modern love and sexual openness. We’ll talk a bit between generations, and get to know people over 50 with insights and experiences that you may have always wondered about but were afraid to ask. And, at times, we’ll get more serious – addressing some issues that experience can add to a longer life: like divorce, widowhood, disability, sex after rape, infidelity, and STDs.
 
You, valued listener, will also be part of the show. I’ll incorporate your questions, your comments, and your experiences.

It won't be boring, and it won't be lewd, but since these are adult matters the content may not be for those under 18. Or 49, for that matter. 

If the way older people’s sex lives are treated as a punchline makes you mad, you want to get an update on the modern sexual world, and if the crude sexual content expected by those raised in the Internet age bores you, this show is for you.
